Super Redding is a crowded landscape for Mexican restaurants as chains and in- dependents compete for business. Opening in December, Super Burri- is the third Mexican restaurant to open in 2021. The family-run restaurant is owned by the husband-and-wife team of Erika Arguello and Ramiro Her- nandez and is located in the former Ni- Thai restaurant building on Churn Creek Road. Hernandez does the cooking while Arguello takes orders and runs the front. And the menu is more than burritos.

Street tacos, enchiladas, fajitas, and menudo (only on the weekends) are among the choices. Arguello said they are working to get their permit to sell beer. La Michoacana Plus Opened in August, this business of- fers a sweet take on Mexican food. Christian Ponce opened the Redding location on Hilltop Drive next to Or- angetheory and Tokyo Gardens. The franchise also has locations in Sacra- mento, Modesto and Southern Califor- nia.

La Michoacana sells Mexican des- serts, including 150 of ice cream and ice cream pops and in- fused water called agua fresca. Ponce was working at a car dealer- ship in Eureka when he decided to open a La Michoacana Plus location in Redd- ing. He said his family owns locations in Modesto and Sacramento. Marie closes; Hilltop Diner coming Many were surprised when after more than 30 years, Marie closed without much fanfare on a July weekend. But renovations soon started on re- purposing the building at 1987 Hilltop Drive.

The Marie franchise was owned by Foods, which will open Hilltop Diner in its place. A recent Facebook post said the new restaurant would open in mid-Decem- ber, but as of Dec. 22, we were still wait- ing for its arrival. The website promises burgers, fries, shakes and pies. Meanwhile, per Facebook, Hilltop Diner announced it was taking pie or- ders for the holidays.

Lucky Deli relocates Since it opened in 2019, Lucky Mil- Deli Market has built a loyal and passionate customer base. So, when the restaurant announced it was moving to a more central location in Redding, owners Jason and Kelley Miller believed it was the perfect spot to build their business even more. Lucky Deli opened in Cy- press Square in the old Subway space in early December. Of course, also making the move was the popular hamburgers Quality Meats Seafood makes the Mil- burgers with a proprietary blend of ingredients) and sandwiches. Coming soon will be beer and wine and dinner service.

Cookies Yogurt coming to Cypress Pointe The COVID-19 pandemic has been extra for restaurants, which have had to navigate through mandates, shutdowns to indoor dining, workers and supply chain is- sues. But Cookies Yogurt in Redding has managed to its sweet spot. This will be the third location, joining the original at the Cobblestone Shop- ping Center on Hartnell Avenue and the Mt. Shasta Mall store.

Trouvaille Nutrition The family that owns Heart Soul Nutrition is opening a second location in the Four Corners shopping center, but going with a name. Trouvaille Nutrition will be in the for- mer Ice Cream Parlor space. Work on the restaurant started this past fall. Heart Soul owner Cheree Van Eyck told the Record Searchlight in August that her sister, Barbara Bruner, will manage and operate Trouvaille. Silver Dollar Club returns The partners in Whiskeytown Brew- ing got tired of waiting for escrow to close on what they want to be the loca- tion for their brewery.
