bs a bargain counter where mining and other shares are disposed of in a manner like that of a special day in a drygoods store when remnants of ribbon etc are sold olf by the bunch Goode of St Louis favors us with his market list wjiich is a gem of the art says the San Francisco News Letter In the special bargain column Mr Goode grows quite enhusiastlc over some propositions not entirely unknown to -the people of California who read the papers and keep posted on events For Instance the Californla-Nevada stock which was discovered the other day to be paying- dividends from the sale of stock with no values of any consequence in the mine is still on hand and the kindly disposed Mr Goode Bays: am still ableto furnish at 65 cents per share but I cannot do so after the present block is And then the Sunset Mining Co the old Rumble scheme he dishes some of that out too Listen to him: old favorite is still mailing Its checks for that 2 per cent monthly dividend I am closing out at The Montezuma Mining Company of Tacoma which he Bays has 25 coke ovens operating he offers at 12 cents per share Among other California -propositions which have to be carted so far from home to find a market which they cannot get here where the merits are thoroughly understood are the California Fortune mine -quoted at 15 cents Thirty-three Oil at 20 cents the Valencia Copper Mining Company said to be the Bully and Mountain hydraulic plant 15 cents per 3100 share A particularly raw proposition offered by this individual is stock which he calls the Jupiter Gold Mining and Milling Company-no address given In this mine which it is said has 200000 tons blocked out and dividends will be high this year 31 stock is offered at 30 cents If you prefer combinations in your rush to get rich some fancy combinations are offered in this establishment a mix-up of alleged oil diamond and gold mines at special rates This is what the mining business has come to in this degenerate age As safe a gamble in the majority of cases would be to buy a line of shares at so much per lineal foot There would always be a supply of wallpaper handy then in any event Bills Against City The following Quite a flurry of excitement was Created Saturday evening by the arrival of an automobile Very few of our citlens have ever seen this one the wonders of the century and large crowds gacd with curious interest at the horseless wagon The Indians especially gaed untiringly at the machine Indeed had a flying machine lit down in their midst it would not have created greater hunter but they -are usually anxious to sell to advantage whatever they may have that is saleable whether real estate merchandise or knowledge yet nothing is thought of it truthfully says the Scientific Press So the prospector when he has found a good vein hastens to the money market to sell that which is his capital or stock in trade Many good bargains have resulted between prospector and buyer-r-good for both the miner and capitalist The principal difficulty that the prospector encounters in the endeavor to realize on his find is the exaggerated value he places on a prospect Ordinarily he calculates the amount of money he can conveniently use before he dies and whatever sum strikes his fancy is the price he puts on the mine but this figure does not' always harmonize with the ideas of the investor who is inclined to look into the proposition with a view to getting his money 'back some day The frequencey with which the Investor fails to do this shows that It is necessary to investigate any in the way of a mining claim fully before paying out cash Under most circumstances there is little trouble in selling a good well-developed mine one which upon examination shows good pay but there is often some difficulty and occasionally more or less disappointment in attempting to dispose of poor property The prospector is indispensable to the advancement of mining but the prospector does not represent a class of men who successfully operate mines There are three classes Of men required to make a success of mining the prospector to find and partially develop the mine the capitalist to equip and fully develop it and the trained practical miner to manage and operate it In this combination lies success Occasionally all three of these are found in a single man but he IS comparatively rare Joseph Bell
