Redding stand ready to guarantee $1000 asked for maintenance and site will doubtless be selected within the present week The site preferred is the vacant land adjoining the Hotel Lorenz on west in reality a portion of Center street but long since rendered use- as a thoroughfare owing to its peculiar location This site will af- ford a frontage of 95 feet on Yuba street and would be available for 200 in depth The city trustees will take the neqpssary legal steps and A further sechre the consent of owners the abutting property The plans of those favoring ttit contemplate the maintenance of driveway between the library and hotel buildng and a roadway to i of the library site along-' side of the railroad right of way To -attempt to go into details would be ri- diculous as the plans are still embryo and are necessarily subject tof radical changes A section along Yuba street front would doubtless r-be maintained as a park and a lnwn'y-PS would extend around the west site tbe building This feature will receive the attention of the Women's Improvement Club and be maintained no expense to the city It is understood that Mrs representing the Lorenz estate has signified her willingness to waive all rights and give legal acquiescence In plans of the library trustees This matter will come up for final consideration at an adjourned session the city trustees Wednesday even? and will probably receive th necessary endorsement to secure Mivvvi princely gift A Boggs of Ydalpom spent fh forenoon of Tuesday in Redding on short pleasure visit 4 oV-S-' s- (1 0 Jt SHASTA COUNTY MINING MAN OFFERS A SUGGESTION OF SOME MERIT Would Establish and Maintain In a Prominent Place Convenient to Channels of Trade a Permanent Exhibit of Mineral Pro ducts 4 It has been suggested that a permanent exhibit of Shasta county minerals Bhould be maintained either in the new depot presuming the company contemplates any such indulgence the rotunda of the Hotel Lorenz or in some other location where the traveling public would be most likely to observe it There is no doubt of the wisdom of such an enterprise although it is at present rather premature Should the Southern Pacific railway company decide to replace the present depot with new one the project would no doubt receive the cordial support of the officixls and suitable provisions might be made in the ileus for the new structure A deficient exhibit would be worse than none at all as the observer is only too apt to base his judgment upon what he sees This matter should be taken' up by the mining men of Shasta county and an it maintained that would fitly represent the mining wealth of Shasta county Although somewhat pre-aiatme the suggestion is worthy of consideration against the time when it can be carried but IP BY RAIL
